Nadalin with Tre Colli Recioto di Soave Docg

The Nadalin  is a typical Christmas cake from  Verona.

This dessert was invented in the thirteenth century to celebrate Verona’s first birth under the lordship of  the Scala family. He is also the ancestor of the most famous  pandoro, which was invented in the nineteenth century. Compared to the latter, Nadalin, despite having similar ingredients, is less buttery and fragrant, but more compact and sweet. The shape is also different: if in fact the pandoro has a regular standard star shape and is very tall, the Nadalin instead is much lower and does not have a very precise shape, often however it is star-shaped like pandoro (delineated, however, in a less precise way), or domed like a very low panettone.

Many Veronese prefer it to  Pandoro  because it is more linked to the tradition of the city, since pandoro has become a national dessert. The Nadalin therefore expresses even better the origins and traditions of  Verona.

Its pairing par excellence is with Recioto di Soave Docg Tre Colli and if you always want to stay among Tessari, you can find Nadalin at the Tessari bakery in Brognoligo, Monteforte d’Alpone (VR).
