The villa that once belonged to the Brognoligo family stands near the square in Costalunga, south of the town’s main street, now called Via Lazzaretto. To the east, it is flanked by the road that descends toward Alpone, onto which the 16th-century entrance gate opens; its keystone bears the family coat of arms with the initials F B (Francesco Brognoligo) and the year 1553, the year in which the building was constructed or completed. In front of the manor house lies a large courtyard, partly fenced in, where there are porticoes, stables, and other outbuildings.<\/span><\/p>\n

The garden was designed by Francesco Brognoligo, the villa’s builder, and maintained by the Rassa family. It was bordered by a hedge and divided in half by a path. A branch of the canals, built to irrigate the “pradaria,” supplied the necessary water.<\/span><\/p>\n

The southern facade of the villa was preceded by a wide marble staircase with six steps, leading to a small doorway framed by fluted stone. On either side of it, to the right and left, were three windows, also with similar outlines. In the center of the main floor, a French door surmounted by a curved pediment led out onto the balcony, which was supported by six stone corbels and featured a wrought-iron railing. The top floor was used as a granary and had seven small square windows, aligned with the openings below. The roof slope was supported by stone corbels, adorned with triglyphs at their ends. <\/span><\/p>\n

As for the interior, on the ground floor there was a hallway flanked on either side by four small rooms, two on each side. The stairwell was located on the right.<\/span><\/p>\n

The building that stands today is not the one erected in the mid-16th century by Francesco Brognoligo, as its architectural features clearly date it to the second half of the 18th century. The reconstruction is attributed to the noble Maffei family of Verona, who came into possession of the Rassa estate after the Rassa family succeeded the Brognoligo family toward the end of the 17th century.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
