In Monteforte d’Alpone and the surrounding area, Tessari is one of the most common last names. There are so many different branches of families, and to tell them apart, it was common practice to give them nicknames.
In particular, the branch from which Antonio Tessari—the grandfather of Cornelia, Antonio, and Germano—descended had been known as the “Grisela” branch since before 1600.
The Tessari family, known as “Grisela”—a name derived from *griso* (meaning “gray” in the Veronese dialect ) —had very light blond hair, and it was precisely this physical trait that gave rise to the family’s nickname.
The decision to give this name to the most important wine produced by the T.E.S.S.A.R.I. Winery was inspired by the concepts of a family business and the local region.
